On a very sad and a deeply personal note, I wish to inform our friends of the passing of Mrs Rosalind Wright on Thursday 29th May 2014.
Ros was a remarkable woman who struggled for many years with end-stage lung disease. Through countless hospital admissions she clung to desire to see her children grow up and her grandchildren be born.
It was my privilege and honour to care for her over the last 7-8 years. Over the years I have come to know her daughter Jenny and her husband Lance very well and bear an enormous fondness for them.
Her children Jenny, Judith, Chris and Liz were all with her on her last night and in her last moments of the morning. Throughout her travails, she never lost her will or desire to see them all to adulthood and then some.
The nursing staff of the ReSCU and the Respiratory Ward were unending in the care and compassion they gave to Ros and the whole family. As a team, we were all very deeply touched by this extraordinary lady. We are all diminished by her passing and the loss to this marvellous family shall be great indeed.
They have always supported my endeavours to see the BBBF flourish, and it was often Ros who would listen to me moan about hospital politics and bureaucratic inertia. She always offered a shoulder of sympathy and a firm hand of guidance as we set out to establish the Foundation.
The family have donated generously to the Foundation and were at our Inaugural Dinner en masse. Danny, Liz' husband, donated all of the Gotye and Temper Trap tickets and memorabilia, over and above the personal financial commitments they so generously made.
I would wish that the BBBF can remember Ros and give their hearts to her family.
The Wright family have requested that money be donated to the Breath by Breath Foundation in lieu of flowers. As a fitting tribute to Rosalind and in gratitude to the Wright Family, the Breath by Breath Foundation has established a special Memorial Fund. It shall bear Rosalind's name and will be set aside for the purposes of Nurse Education with a special nursing scholarship. This will enable nurses to study overseas in the leading respiratory hospitals and bring their knowledge back to benefit our patients. Hopefully, there will be sufficient funds to establish a Scholarship which shall in future bear her name.
May she Rest in Peace, free at last of her unending breathlessness.
I know now why the BBBF does this wonderful work and why the Foundation must grow.
Thank you one and all
